Juliana Lehman, Founder and Chairwoman
Juliana lives in Evergreen with her husband, Richard, and a bevy of four-legged creatures that includes two dogs, three cats, two horses, two rams, and three part-time yaks.
An entrepreneurial spirit comes from both sides of her family—her parents and many of her relatives were self-employed.
Prior to marrying Richard, Juliana owned and operated several very successful housekeeping companies in her native California. In 1995, she sold her lucrative Carmel Valley business to a childhood friend, who continues to expand it on the successful foundation that Juliana built.
Juliana's business acumen, creativity, and compassion—combined with a deep love for horses she shared with her father—are the reasons that Colorado Horsecare Foodbank was launched. She is grateful for all the people and horses that have become a part of her life through this meaningful and important cause.
Kelly Hendricks, Board Member
Kelly Hendricks lives in Conifer with her husband, Jeremy, and sons—Tristan and Laird. She teaches riding to beginners ages four and up. The family owns Pikes View Ranch LLC, which consists of 40 beautiful mountain acres, some wonderfully patient schooling horses, a herd of Navajo Churro sheep, chickens, and a few funny goats. Her lifelong passion is to help riders improve their skills through dressage basics and natural horsemanship.
Kelly grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and studied Government and Economics at Lehigh University in Allentown. Her background in sales and marketing has helped her grow her teaching and training business. With a lifelong love of animals and some hands-on experience, Kelly was able to make horses a full-time career in 1998. At that time she met Juliana Lehman, who became not only a riding student, but a wonderful and trustworthy friend.
Colorado Horsecare Foodbank has given Kelly a way to support horses and horse owners in the community, and to keep horse tales in people’s lives. “Sell the cow, buy the sheep, but never be without the horse,” as the old Irish proverb goes.
Marty Jackson, Board Member and "Hay Gal"
Marty Jackson lives in Black Forest with her family, friends, horses, and dogs. Her background and work experience are diverse. Marty brings to the Foodbank skills she has cultivated from her work as a private investigator; an animal cruelty investigator; a project manager; a construction manager; and currently as an equipment engineer in the wireless industry.
Marty grew up with horses. At the tender age of seven she was guiding tourists on horseback in Green Mountain Falls. The manager of the operation instructed Marty to have the riders back at the stables “when Mickey’s big hand reaches the 12” on her Mickey Mouse watch. She brings this level of tenacity to the Foodbank, where she has recently begun to manage the purchase and distribution of hay to qualified applicants.
Marty and her family were evacuated during the Black Forest wildfires in 2013. It was an unforgettable experience. “As a board member of CHF, I knew our mission was important, but I didn’t fully appreciate how life-changing the Foodbank could be; not only for the people and livestock directly affected by the fire, but also how my involvement in giving back to the horse community has helped heal my family,” said Marty. She is currently pursuing an equine stabling initiative that would provide a solution for those displaced by natural disasters.
