Welcome to Hay for a Day, our campaign to show everyone that for $5—about the price of a venti-size latte at Starbucks—you can feed a horse for one day.
An average-size horse that isn't in heavy work requires approximately 20 pounds of hay per day to stay in good weight. With hay fetching around $15 per bale, an average 60-pound bale will feed one horse for three days.
We believe Hay for a Day is an exciting way to connect our non-horsey community with horse owners who are experiencing how the whims of our environment and economy are making it difficult to hold on to their equine companions.
CHF strongly recommends weighing your hay at feeding time. Knowing precisely how much you are feeding your horse saves you money, eliminates waste, and keeps your horse healthier by keeping him at the proper weight. All it takes is a fish scale, a bucket, and a few minutes of setup. If you would like more information about how to weigh your hay, please call Juliana at 303-670-1474.
By clicking the link below, you can make a secure donation in any increment of $5. Then you can proudly claim that you gave hay for a day, or two . . . or more!
