ABOUT US

To date, Colorado Horsecare Foodbank (CHF) has helped keep more than 300 horses with the families that love them.

Founder Juliana Lehman: “Having heard one story too many about the financial plight of horse owners, I was compelled to take action. I launched Colorado Horsecare Foodbank in May 2009. Through newspaper articles and television, word of our organization has spread. Calls come in daily from desperate horse owners who are seeking assistance.”

With the economic downturn that began in 2008, Colorado horse owners have experienced job loss and financial devastation. When making mortgage payments and putting food on the table becomes difficult, trying to feed and properly care for a horse becomes nearly impossible. This is forcing many horse owners to relinquish their beloved equine companions. Some have tried cutting back on feed to the point of starving their horses. Unfortunately, the problem is becoming more and more widespread.

Thanks to the efforts of Juliana, the CHF board, and a coterie of like-minded volunteers, hay is being provided, vet bills are being paid, and hooves are being trimmed and shod.
