Kjysten Weppener Drew (Kitty)
I was raised on a 600+ acre cattle ranch in Corral de Tierra, just west of Salinas , California in the area John Steinbeck called The Pastures of Heaven. I am an only child and I raised both beef cattle and wool sheep on the property. They put me through college.
I literally grew up on horseback, riding at Etap Stables starting when I was 6 years old (English) and trained with Marvin Roberts (Western) during my senior year in high school. I showed both English and Western in local shows, including Pebble Beach, the Monterey County Junior Rodeo and the California Rodeo. That's the benefit of having a multi-purpose horse. In my mind there is nothing finer than a Morab for all around versatility. I won many awards on my beloved Rica. I rode her sister to a second place finish in the Miss California Rodeo contest in 1960 and was an Outdoor Girl and flag carrier for that year's events.
When my husband was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming I rode with a Womans' Riding Club. We had to honor of taking over Helltown during the Cheyenne Stampede. We rode across town, with police escort, stormed the place, and kidnapped the Mayor. I was elected Vice Mayor for that year's festivities. That was when I learned to drive a stagecoach!
I have had a life-long association and appreciation for horses and now enjoy spoiling my daughter's three horses (Bar, Guinness, and Coal Hard Cash) and two minis (Freddie and Rocky), who live on our cojoined property. Being disabled, I can no longer ride, but I can still love.
I met Julianna when she was just a baby and babysat for her parents. I taught her to ride on Rica and we have been life-long friends. She was even a Junior Bridesmaid at my wedding. I am proud to be part of this organization, even though I now live in Washington State .
